The sign has two separate planks with are joined together 1/2" - 1" thick wood braces, so the sign will sit off your wall by 1/2 to 1". The chunky wood is 1.25" thick and contains knots, exposed grain and imperfections all of which are intentional and help to capture the rustic modern farmhouse decor style. White background of sign has a dark gray color underneath which "peeks" through after being lightly distressed and sanded.
